Pianist Sang Woo Kang has been described as “prodigiously talented” by the Los Angeles Times and praised for his “atmospheric and poetic renditions” by the New York Concert Review. He is an active performer and educator who has presented master classes and recitals in Asia, Central and South America, and Europe. He successfully balances his performance career with dual teaching positions at Providence College (full professor) and Brown University (artist-faculty).

Sang Woo’s recent international performances include the Auditorio Piazzolla (Argentina), Oscar Alfaro Auditorium (Costa Rica), Bari International Festival (Italy), Sejong and Seoul Arts Center (Korea), Musicasa (Japan), and Goethe Institute (Thailand), Moulin d’Ande (France), Sibelius Academy (Finland), Iceland University of the Arts (Iceland), Weill Hall at Carnegie Hall, and Steinway Hall (New York), to name a few.

Upcoming events include chamber, solo, and orchestral concerts in New York, Providence, Chicago, and Boston. Mr. Kang has appeared in chamber performances with many prominent musicians, including collaborations with Cassatt String Quartet, Argus Quartet, Manhattan Quartet, Amernet Quartet, Trio Fibonacci, with collaborations with many prominent musicians, including members of Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, New York City Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, Munich Radio, among others.

Sang Woo recorded the Brahms Clarinet Sonatas on the EMI Korea label in 2007 and his performances has been featured on various programs in the US and abroad, including the WXXI, WGBH, and MPBN classical music stations. Sang Woo’s latest solo album, featuring Mozart’s piano pieces, was released on the NAXOS Label in December 2014 and have met with high international acclaim from Fanfare, American Record Guide, and Clavier Companion among others.

His new Scarlatti Sonata recording will be available early 2022 (Naxos).

Laureate of the Mozart International Young Artist Competition, Mr. Kang was also the recipient of NEAC Grant in partnership with the Korea Foundation as well as grant from the Whiting Foundation for research and recording on the music of Domenico Scarlatti.

Over the summer, he directs the Piano Institute and Seminar at the Atlantic Music Festival (www.atlanticmusicfestival.org) at Colby College, an annual intensive 6-week series of concerts and events focused on promotion and performance of traditional and new music.

In addition to his other activities, Sang Woo writes recent classical releases for publications such as the American Record Guide and Clavier Companion. He has also presented papers for the College Music Society international conferences on music and the formation of national identity.

Sang Woo is a graduate of Juilliard School and the Eastman School of Music, where he received the Doctor of Musical Arts degree.
